Happy Spring!! Winter is almost over and I have seen signs of Spring. The daffodils are sprouting and the lilac bushes have buds. Soon we’ll all have Spring Fever. Our programs will soon be changing also. The bowling program will be ending the last week of April in Charleston and Mattoon. I hope all of the bowlers have enjoyed themselves this year. We will end the season with trophy presentations as usual.
The Summer program will be starting in June. Our summer program will be a little different this year. ... It’s possible because of the budget cuts that summer camp will run seven or eight instead of nine weeks as it has in the past. We will be trying a new daily schedule with slightly longer activity periods. But our commitment to the campers will not change. We will still strive to have the best camp around. If you have questions about our programs, please call the camp office at 217-895-2341. |

This month Barbara Funk contacted us to say that Camp New Hope was one of the local charities the Trinity Lutheran congregation wanted to bless with part of the proceeds from the sale of their building. The congregation gave $8,333.00 to help us. Since 1965, Trinity Lutheran gave food to those in need and a place for community meetings. Five other local charities received a portion of the building’s sale price. Even when the congregation was too small to keep the building, they kept on giving. |

NOTE: Respite families, please complete a green financial aid form if you may need help with respite cost. Some financial aid is available, and we always keep back some funds to help when there is a caregiver death or hospitalization.
VOLUNTEERS: This month the EIU Van from Student Community Service brought the Respite campers 8 volunteers on one respite weekend, and 6 on the other. We love this program. SCS spreads the word about our volunteer opportunities, and give the volunteers our forms and free transportation. They really made our Saturday activities more fun. |

Our Board called for a public meeting in February about the financial need caused by the State cuts to funding. The meeting was a brainstorming session with great ideas. One idea, suggested by Denny Anderson, really caught fire and is off to a great start. It is a drive to find sponsors for campers. Denny, with Randy Kalal, became the first to sponsor a camper in this new Sponsorship Program. At least fourteen other sponsors have also sponsored campers who otherwise could not afford to attend camp. Not only have individuals stepped up to help, but now we are having churches and clubs... |

This will be a home-cooked meal featuring Baked Chicken Breast, Pork Loin, Noodles, Mashed Potatoes, Candied Carrots, Green Beans, Cole Slaw and regular and sugar-free dessert. |
How to Get Help to Pay for Camp (Sponsorship)
(continued from above)...Not only have individuals stepped up to help, but now we are having churches and clubs offering to sponsor. The need is intense since funding cuts forced us to raise summer camp fees.
YOU CAN HELP A CAMPER SIGN UP FOR A SPONSORSHIP: Request financial aid from the camp by filling out a very simple, one page form. CAMPERS UNDER AGE 21 can also get our help to apply for a state program called LAN funding. For more information about Sponsorship or LAN, please call Kim Carmack at Camp New Hope, (217)895-2341.
